Mountain View Country Inn On the
face of it the Inn looks like your normal average little country hotel. However, looks can be deceiving. In fact this little Inn is rather slightly
abnormal. Yes,
the rooms are on-suite, clean and comfortable and it has the usual guest
amenities but each room has it’s own personality. All rooms have been lovingly decorated,
each with it’s own theme and a warm homely feeling. Most of the rooms have
beautiful antique furniture. It
also has a breakfast room, serving the full Continental spread as well as an
English breakfast. However, it is
rather abnormal to find a breakfast room decorated with unique hand made
clowns and rag dolls as well as other hand made articles. Just
like other hotels, the Restaurant has an A la Carte menu with a choice of
delicious meals but it also serves as an art gallery with art from various
local artists. In case you have not
noticed, Lady Grey has many artists. Even
the Pub is not so very normal. It is
called the Sportsmans Arms Pub and is decorated accordingly with one wall
dedicated to John-Michael Tawse, the greatest sportsman of the area. However, what makes the pub unusual is the
friendly staff and the interesting characters you are bound to find in the
pub. Lady Grey has a number of them. They are not really drunkards, in fact,
some of them do not even drink alcohol.
Meeting one of these characters could make your stay unforgettable. The staff often organize a party or a
bring-and-braai on the spur of the moment.
Visitors often join and those who do not have meat just order some
from the kitchen. The regular Theme
Parties are also great fun. Even
the Conference Room is
slightly unusual. Originally it served
as a storage area for Liquor but it was recently renovated to become a
comfortable Conference Room with carpeted floors and air conditioning. It has a large pull-down screen, white
board, flip chart and many power points for computers. It also serves as an art gallery and is
used for meetings, conferences, training and chamber-type performances. It comfortably seats 45 people at tables
and 80 people in rows. The
informal, relaxed atmosphere at the Inn really makes it different from other
Hotels. Guests usually feel at home
immediately and they often return as friends. The
old Post Office/Magistrates Court dating from 1889 has been converted and
serves as a Self Catering unit. It comprises of three bedrooms a bathroom,
kitchen and lounge and is situated a street away from the Inn. It is the ideal holiday home for a family
and is serviced every day. |
